The jails population sat at 4,906 Thursday afternoon, he mentioned.
An added 175 were being expected to be introduced on Thursday night time, he additional.
The mayor has beforehand mentioned the city is releasing inmates with fundamental health problems, aged folks and these who have served most of their time.
As of Thursday, 58 Department of Correction personnel experienced tested beneficial for coronavirus, while 73 inmates in DOC amenities were also confirmed to have the virus.
