RFK granddaughter took family to Maryland to escape coronavirus, husband says

The granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy had taken her relatives to Maryland and was being at her mother’s dwelling to escape the coronavirus, her grief-stricken husband said.

Maeve Kennedy Townsend McKean, 40, and her 8-12 months-previous son Gideon McKean had been in a canoe in Chesapeake Bay near Annapolis when they disappeared Thursday. The Coast Guard referred to as off the search Friday night.

“It is clear that Maeve and Gideon have passed absent,” McKean’s husband claimed on Facebook Friday.

“We have been self-quarantining in an empty dwelling owned by Maeve’s mom Kathleen on the Chesapeake Bay, hoping to give our young ones a lot more space than we have at home in DC to run around,” David McKean mentioned.

He reported his spouse and daughter got in the canoe to chase a ball that went into the drinking water as the two of the them ended up actively playing a video game of kickball in the vicinity of a smaller, shallow cove driving the dwelling.

“They got into a canoe, intending just to retrieve the ball, and someway acquired pushed by wind or tide into the open bay,” McKean reported. “About 30 minutes later on they were being spotted by an onlooker from land, who saw them significantly out from shore, and called the law enforcement. Right after that past sighting, they have been not observed again. The Coast Guard recovered their canoe, which was capsized and miles absent, at approximately 6:30 (Thursday) evening.”

McKean was the daughter of RFK’s oldest youngster, Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, a former Maryland lieutenant governor.

Gideon was “deeply compassionate, declining to sing children’s songs if they contained a hint of animals or folks staying addressed cruelly,” McKean reported of his son.

He claimed of his spouse: “She was my almost everything.”

McKean was the mother of two other youngsters, Gabriella, 7, and Toby, 2.

“As Gabriella and Toby lay sleeping future to me very last evening, I promised them that I would do my finest to be the mother or father that Maeve was, and to be the particular person that Gideon clearly would have developed up to be,” David McKean stated.
