New York Town has amassed enough ventilators to remain forward of the coronavirus — but only for a handful of more days, Mayor Bill de Blasio warned Sunday.
“We have acquired a handful of far more days listed here,” Hizzoner reported in the course of a City Corridor press briefing. “We consider now we can get to Tuesday or Wednesday with the provides we have.”
The mayor had earlier warned that Sunday was “D-Day” with diagnoses mounting and not sufficient ventilators to go all-around, but the metropolis was equipped to get in advance of the curve, if only for a couple of days.
“My order to my complete workforce … is usually to prepare for the worst-situation situation, not the greatest-situation scenario, not what you assume could be an regular state of affairs,” he stated. “Because God forbid the worst-case happens, we cannot say at that level, ‘Oh, gee, we underestimated.’ ”
De Blasio celebrated the victory, but also stressed that it’s only incremental.
“It’s fantastic in just one way that the first projection was cautious and that we have a number of a lot more times,” he mentioned. “But I want to be clear, it only signifies a several additional times, nothing at all additional I can assurance further than that.”
